They do this by removing algal growth from their shells. They are mostly found in shallow reefs up 2 – 46 meters deep. They are commonly kept as a saltwater aquarium fish. During the night, its color fades. Its bright yellow color returns rapidly when the fish wakes up. Group-spawning as well as pair-spawning by territorial males has been observed with this species.
