Water Wings and Wildlife

Make some tracks and join the Flint RiverQuarium Saturday, September 26, from 10 a.m.-5 p.m., for a


celebration of all creatures great and small at the Water, Wings and Wildlife Festival. Whether wet and


scaly, feathered, slimy or furry, we want to celebrate all of the amazing wild animals that fill our


beautiful world. You can enjoy birds of prey and reptile shows, take a SCUBA lesson in our Blue Hole


and learn more about Planet Earth from some friendly puppets! Regular admission rates apply. For

In fulfillment of a life-long dream shared by two very close friends, Dale Arrowood and Ed

Carswell, Winged Ambassadors was founded with a mission to promote environmental

conservation, specifically protection for the wildlife that we share the earth with, through a

uniquely designed program of education.  Programs featuring some of the very Birds of Prey

responsible for long ago capturing the fascinations of those two friends have now provided

thousands of people in many different communities the rare and exhilarating opportunity of

coming face-to-face with these breathtaking animals as they learn more about them and the

complex, important roles they play in supporting the geographical ecosystems on which we all

Amazing Adaptations Reptile Show

Did you know that sea turtles have been around since the time of the dinosaurs and live in the

ocean their entire lives? How do they do it? Learn about the unique adaptations that allow sea

turtles to survive in the marine environment and what makes them different from any other

type of turtle. Through interactive role-play, someone in the audience will actually “become” a

Mobile Butterfly House

Presenter: Greathouse Butterfly Farms

Where: RiverQuarium Plaza

We’re all aflutter over the butterfly encounter, a 20’ x 20’ tented traveling walk-through

exhibit filled with plants and more than 250 butterflies. Bring your little ones to the butterfly

tent, and watch the butterflies engage your children by lighting on their shoulders as you feed

them a sugary treat!

Build Your Own Birdhouse

Presenter: Home Depot

Times: Ongoing, first-come, first-served

Cost: $5.00 per birdhouse

Where: RiverQuarium Plaza

If you are looking to give a bird a home, come out and build one. Home Depot will provide all

the supplies necessary for you to help a bird species of concern. You can also show off your

artistic flare by painting your bird house as well!





Alien Waters

Presenter: Thronateeska Heritage Center

Show Times: 11:30 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.

Cost: Free with Admission

Where: Thronateeska Heritage Center’s Wetherbee Planetarium

Explore the cosmos in the Wetherbee Planetarium

as we discuss the search for water outside of our rare planet. Travel to distant stellar objects

and learn about the presence of H2O beyond the realm of our dewy atmosphere. Your thirst for

what recent discoveries have to offer will surely be quenched at this live planetarium show. A

small segment on the September 27th lunar eclipse will also be covered. Each presentation is to

last 30 minutes with post-show Q&A.

Discover SCUBA

Presenter: Adventure Dive Center

Times: First-come, first served

Cost: $20 per person + Admission; call to register

Where: RiverQuarium Flint River Room

Have you always wanted to know what it would be like to dive and see underwater creatures in

a different light, but you have never been ready to take the plunge? Discover SCUBA is for

you! Come on in our Blue Hole with our expert SCUBA certified professionals. They will

guide you through the basic training skills, safety and equipment requirements that are

necessary for a certification. You will not receive an actual SCUBA certification with this

Fly Fishing

Presenter: Todd Rogers with Orvis

Times: 11:00 a.m., 1:30 p.m., 3:30 p.m.

Cost: Free with Admission

Where: Riverfront Trail Flint River edge

With a good fly cast, anyone can begin to fish! Todd Rogers with Orvis will demonstrate

various fly fishing techniques. There will be opportunities to learn about, try gear and practice

casting. This is a good time for beginners to get a taste of fly fishing. Who knows, maybe you

will take the “bait” and want to become a master of this craft. You can also sign up for an

introductory class that will be held at a later date sometime in spring 2014.

Hunting/Fishing Simulator

Presenter: Georgia Department of Natural Resources

Times: Ongoing

Cost: Free with Admission

Where: Adventure Center

Local wildlife biologists will be on-hand to help children with simulated hunting games. You

can improve your aim with realistic shotguns and challenge your friends to bragging rights to

see who bags the biggest trophy in the artificial environments!

Archery Course

Times: Ongoing

Cost: Free with Admission

Where: RiverQuarium Plaza

Archery. The word inspires you to stare down a target, knock an arrow and let it fly. On this

practice course you will get to do exactly that. The Georgia DNR will provide archery

instruction, equipment and demonstrations for children to learn and enjoy the sport of archery.

Bug, Bugs, and More Bugs

Presenter: University of Georgia Tifton Campus Entomology Department

Times: Ongoing

Cost: Free with Admission

Where: RiverQuarium Plaza

These six-legged creatures come in all shapes and sizes for your viewing and holding pleasure!

Your children will learn to see the natural world on a whole different level. Come out and learn

more about how insects assist with pollination, food production and pest control. Many can

also cause agricultural problems and can be pests themselves.
